Who we are and what we do.

Westbury Lions are a group of people from all walks of life, both male and female, with a common interest in helping our local community.
We meet twice a month for business and committee meetings. These meetings progress a range of topics including fund raising, welfare and social events. The meetings start at 8.00pm and are held at the United Reformed Church Hall which is accessed from The Butts, off Warminster Road, Westbury.

Lions Social Activities.

In addition to our fund raising activities Westbury Lions also run an active social calendar. Activities include a safari supper, several dinners including an annual black tie dinner and dance, a skittles night, a boat trip and a BBQ.
So as well as helping to raise money for good causes in Westbury joining Lions is a great way to meet new like minded people, So if you are an existing resident of Westbury and the surrounding villages or new to the area and would like to expand your social circle why not consider joining Westbury Lions. See below for the different ways of contacting us.

The Lions Bookshop

The Lions Book Shop is situated at 7 Warminster Road, Westbury and is open every Friday and Saturday 10am – 1pm.
We stock a range of fiction books by all the popular authors including Danielle Steel, Wilbur Smith, Dan Brown, Ian Rankin, Dick Francis and many more. In the non fiction section we have books covering lifestyle, outdoor pursuits, education, as well as biographies and autobiographies.
Because all of our books are generously donated we can offer them for sale at low,low prices starting from as little as 20p. We even give children's books away free of charge. Why not come and have a browse, you will be amazed at the range of books we have in stock.
We also welcome donations of popular reading material, just drop it off at the book shop during normal opening hours.

The money raised is used solely for good community causes, not for administration costs or overhead charges, we pay that.

2010 EVENTS

Donkey Derby 12th September 2010

The Westbury Lions 5th annual Donkey Derby will be held at Westbury Country Park (formally LaFarge Social Club) on Sunday 12th September 2010.

This year´s event will be bigger and better than previous years. In addition to the usual favourite attractions which included face painting, candy floss, popcorn, bottle and cake stalls, bouncy castle etc. There will be several new attractions including fairground rides, miniature railway rides, soapy bubbles water walk, balloons and lots of other fun attractions. Mums and Dads will not be forgotten either. They can bet on the tote or with Honest Joe, the on course bookie, have a drink at the bar and enjoy a burger from the barbeque.

This will be a great day out for the kids and easy on the pocket for Mum and Dad.

Westbury Christmas Lights Switch-on

We will be supporting the annual Christmas Lights Switch-on by transporting Santa to the event and providing "flashing things", candyfloss and popcorn. We look forward to seeing you all at this popular event heralding the start of the Christmas festivities.

We attend local fetes and sell candy floss, popcorn and the chance to win a bottle of something on our Bottle Stall. We raise approximately £10K per year and distribute it to local clubs, schools, senior citizens and worthy projects.

Message in a bottle

Message in a Bottle is a nation-wide initiative to help our emergency services. The ´Bottle´ is a small plastic canister with a ´Green Cross´ on it. Inside is a small form where you can set out any details you would wish the emergency service to know about if they found you unwell or unable to communicate. You can include any information you wish, including any medication you may be on, contact details of friends and family and the name of your pet and how to look after it. Also in the canister are 2 ´Green Cross´ sticky labels. The idea is to adhere one sticker behind the main entrance door you use and the other on your fridge door. The form is then inserted into the canister which is then stored in your fridge, not because it needs to be kept cool, but the emergency services know this is where they will find the information. If you need to keep the bottle somewhere else, say if you do not have a fridge, be sure it is somewhere the emergency service can easily find it. The Bottles are FREE of charge and you can get one from the surgery or the pharmacists in town.
